Chapter 12: Of Adoption

The Westminster Confession of Faith in Plain Language
God graciously and lovingly adopts everyone he justifies to be his own children. They are adopted when they are united with his only Son, Jesus Christ. Because of Christ, they are counted as his own and enjoy all the freedoms and privileges that go along with being children of God. He gives them his family name and the Holy Spirit that comes with adoption. They can boldly ask almighty God to act on their behalf. Like children, they have the privilege of calling him “Father.” And just like a father should, God responds when they need him most. He protects them, meets their needs, and disciplines them. He will never orphan them because they are sealed until God finishes his redemptive plan on this earth. Now that they are God’s children, they are heirs of the salvation that will last forever and will inherit everything he has promised.
